Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has promised to bequeath a more stable and economically fortified state to his successor, expressing strong confidence in the ability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, to build on his administration’s achievements.

Governor Zulum gave this assurance on Monday while hosting a high-powered delegation of stakeholders from Gubio Local Government Area, led by elder statesman Alhaji Gambo Gubio, at the Government House in Maiduguri.

The meeting, which centered on the transition of leadership and the future of the state, saw the governor acknowledge the immense difficulties his administration faced since 2019, particularly in tackling the protracted insurgency that has devastated the region.

“Security is the most difficult issue. Insha Allah, before I leave, the situation will be better than now. I will hand over a more stable, more prosperous, and more secure government to Engr. Mustapha Gubio,” the governor declared.

Managing Success: A Critical Challenge

Reflecting on the rigours of governance, Zulum noted that sustaining progress is often a more daunting task than initiating it. He emphasized that the survival of the state’s development trajectory hinges on collective support and divine guidance.

“What matters is not just success; managing success is more difficult than achieving success itself. Managing the affairs of Borno State is not easy, but with collective support, prayers, and guidance, God will give him the wisdom and energy to succeed,” Zulum said.

The governor, who recounted his own challenging start in 2019 – noting that he barely saw his family during his first two months in office—expressed optimism that the state is finally witnessing the “light at the end of the tunnel.”

A Resolute Endorsement

Governor Zulum did not mince words in his endorsement of Engr. Mustapha Gubio, highlighting a relationship that spans over two decades. He described the candidate as a man of profound integrity, humility, and composure.
“I have known him for the past 26 years, since he was a student at the University of Maiduguri. His integrity is evident; he is humane, very gentle, and composed,” Zulum added.

Gubio Stakeholders Hail Zulum’s Leadership

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Gambo Gubio, lauded the governor for his transformative impact on the state’s infrastructure and security landscape. He specifically thanked Zulum for his pivotal role in the emergence of Mustapha Gubio as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 polls.

“We are here today to express our profound gratitude… Zulum is succeeding,” the elder statesman affirmed, pledging the full support of the Gubio community for the administration’s continued success.

The event was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Bukar Tijani, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Bello Ayuba, and other members of the state executive council.
