In a massive 48-hour coordinated offensive spanning the Lake Chad basin to the South-East forests, Nigerian security forces neutralized more than 30 insurgents, apprehended high-level separatist commanders, and rescued nearly 20 kidnap victims.

The surge in operations, documented between April 20 and April 22, 2026, and largely reported by Zagazola Makama (an authoritative voice in counterinsurgency reporting), highlights a multi-front strategy to dismantle the logistics and leadership of terrorist and criminal networks.

The Toll on Insurgency

The most significant blow occurred in the North East, where the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI targeted an ISWAP logistics hub.

  • Precision Airstrikes: Military air assets destroyed a fleet of over 30 boats at Kaniram Island, effectively crippling the terrorists’ mobility.
  • Confirmed Attrition: Battle Damage Assessments confirmed over 30 ISWAP fighters were killed.
  • Mass Burials: Intelligence later observed ISWAP members conducting mass burial rites in the Mallam Fatori axis, confirming the scale of the losses.

Rescues and Humanitarian Impact

Ground troops prioritized the recovery of civilians held in various conflict zones.

  • Mandara Mountains: Nine captives, including a 16-year-old girl forced into marriage by a commander, were rescued by the 82 Division Task Force Battalion.
  • Central Belt Success: Across Benue and Kaduna, troops rescued nine additional individuals during swift responses to distress calls and highway abductions.
  • Casualty Evacuation: Soldiers evacuated at least three civilians to medical facilities after they sustained gunshot wounds during initial kidnap attempts.

Dismantling Criminal Infrastructure

Beyond direct combat, operatives focused on cutting off the tools of violence.

  • Illegal Arms Production: In Langtang North, Plateau State, two men were arrested while actively fabricating AK-47 and G3 rifles in a clandestine workshop.
  • Economic Sabotage: Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA intercepted a bandit group in Katsina, recovering 225 rustled cattle that were being moved through Kauri village.
  • Logistical Depletion: In Zamfara’s Munhaye Forest, troops destroyed terrorist enclaves and seized over 145 liters of fuel and various electronic equipment.

High-Profile ArrestsThe period was marked by the capture of several key figures linked to organized violence.

  • Separatist Command: Troops of Sector 2 arrested Mr. Chinedu Igautu (alias “Calamity”), a suspected IPOB/ESN commander linked to an attack on police personnel in Delta State.
  • Cult Leadership: In Benue, the leaders of the rival “Red” and “Black” cult groups were among 10 suspects detained following a violent clash in Kwande.
  • Judicial Progress: The Plateau State government formally filed terrorism and homicide charges against five suspects connected to the March 2026 Angwa-Rukuba massacre.
While military authorities described the current environment as “relatively calm but unpredictable,” they reaffirmed a commitment to sustaining air and ground superiority to ensure long-term stability in the affected regions.
