In a jubilant celebration in Yobe State, farmers are rejoicing over the distribution of multi-billion Naira worth of agricultural equipment, courtesy of Governor Mai Mala Buni. The initiative, part of the state’s ambitious Agricultural Empowerment Programme, aims to bolster food security, enhance economic growth, and improve agricultural productivity across the region.
The distribution, which began yesterday in the local government areas of Yunusari, Geidam, Bursari, Tarmuwa, and Gulani, is set to benefit a staggering 1,590 farmers. The excitement is palpable as over 1,060 male farmers received essential farming tools and resources free of charge, including 159 Hand Ploughs, 159 Powered Hand Tillers, 212 Multi-Purpose Threshers, and 530 Solar Powered Pumps. Additionally, 530 female farmers were delighted to receive three small ruminants each.

The ceremonial launch, graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscored the federal support for this transformative initiative.
Governor Buni emphasized the program’s scope, noting that over 5,300 farmers across the state’s 178 wards in 17 Local Government Areas will ultimately benefit. “This initiative is designed to improve agricultural productivity, ensure food sufficiency and security, and stimulate economic growth,” he stated, urging beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly.

The heartfelt gratitude from the farming community was evident. Babagana Ali from Yunusari expressed, “This support will enable me to expand my farmland for more food cultivation.” Musa Aliyu from Geidam shared his enthusiasm, “I am cultivating my farm now in the rainy season and will also engage in irrigation with the assistance of the equipment given to me.”
The atmosphere was particularly festive in Bursari, where Hajj Fanna Modu danced in celebration after receiving her ruminants. “Thank you, Governor Buni. I am sure my grandchildren will benefit from these goats given to me,” she exclaimed with joy.

Security measures have been put in place to ensure the equipment remains within the state and is used for its intended purpose, with stern warnings against misuse. Governor Buni directed security agencies to impound and arrest individuals attempting to move the equipment out of the state.
As the program continues to roll out in Gujba and Damaturu, the enthusiasm among farmers remains high, marking a promising step towards a more prosperous and food-secure Yobe State.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has once said that “Investment in agriculture is critical for food security and economic growth. By providing farmers with the necessary tools and resources, we not only enhance their productivity but also ensure that communities have reliable access to nutritious food. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to building a more resilient and self-sufficient agricultural sector.”
